It's a dual problem. The economics of baseball are stacked against cities like Cleveland. Whethere we like it or not, it doesn't have the population base (40th largest city overall) and the plethora of big spending corporations to subsidize everything. So much of baseball-related revnue is established by attendance and radio/TV. Cleveland isn't in bad shape there and has certainly demonstrated it will support a winner, but there are certain economic realities. But the Dolans and Shapiro have significant responsibilities that they haven't met. I agree that Cleveland fans should demand the best.

GaryGary Benzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10578834252235902676noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30300136.post-44454528652662221152008-07-09T23:51:00.000-04:002008-07-09T23:51:00.000-04:00You sound like a typical Clevelander. When did Clevelanders become so pathetic in their willingness to stand up and say enough is enough? The depression in this city has not only affected life ambition it’s has sucked the life out of the sports franchises.
You sound like a typical Clevelander. We cannot be the city that Lebron leaves. But the city of Cleveland will continue to be second rate until its residents and fans begin to demand the best. The residents of Cleveland must demand not only the best product on the field but they should demand the best and accountability from the cities leaders. This is the same fan base that was told when STO was formed there would be additional capital to spend on players. We were told that when the team got better they ownership would spend money to keep the team together. We have been bamboozled.

I am disappointed, but not surprise, to hear from the Cleveland sports “press” aka spineless journalists who say the Indians had to do it-they are a small market team. We are not a small market team and we are not a small market city. Individuals like yourself have an obligation to inform your readers of the truth- that the Indians have an owner who worries more about his bottom line that putting a winning product on the field. To win in profession sports you must spend money. This has nothing to do with small markets. I refuse to stand idle while I watch my city and its fans be taken advantage of- you should also refuse.

MJK
Cleveland native.
I am disappointed, but not surprise, to hear from the Cleveland sports “press” aka spineless journalists who say the Indians had to do it-they are a small market team.
